COUGAR TOWN is making the shift from ABC to TBS, and the show is first up at the 2013 Winter TCA.
Keep reading for the live-blog of the panel…
9:00: “Will you believe me if I said this was the plan all along,” co-creator Bill Lawrence jokes about moving from ABC to TBS. Busy Philipps said that TBS has embraced the show in a way that she found “refreshing.” She loved TBS’ enthusiasm for the show.
9:02: Philips said it felt like there was a new energy for the filming of the season; the crew was excited to see promos during the MLB playoffs. Courteney Cox calls the recent press trip to Napa one of her favorite experiences, so she’s loving the support, too.
9:04: When they moved the show over, there wasn’t a real thought to change the title when they moved it over.. “We wear it as a badge of honor, but I still enjoy doing the title cards,” Lawrence says.
9:06: “We have naked day,” Cox teases of what’s to come for newlyweds Jules and Grayson. Lawrence teased that Laurie and Travis will be continue with their
9:07: “I feel like we leave this season and I could be the weirdest,” Josh Hopkins says of starting the series off normal and evolving.
9:08: “Someone asked why we don’t have more Penny Cans scenes this season, and you walk to set and the crew is standing around while these idiots play for an hour and a half,” Lawrence (semi-)jokes.
9:09: Ric Swartzlander, the new EP on the show, says his instructions for coming on the show from Turner bosses was simple: “Don’t screw it up.”
9:13: “We feel like we’ve only gotten busted on one continuity” error, Lawrence says, which is Jules’ college/when Travis was born. Cox admits she’s confused about the accent she has in the upcoming flashback and says co-star Brian Van Holt is attractive, but when you put him in a mullet, he’s the most unattractive person in the world.
9:17: “I want them to notice no difference,” Lawrence says of viewers tuning in and noticing a difference between the ABC and TBS episodes. He says the goal is for viewers to be able to tune in to reruns and not be able to see a real difference between season 3 and 4.
9:18: Philipps says she was initially very anti-Travis and Laurie, but she and Dan Byrd agree that they’ve done a good job of making it more plausible, especially towards the end of the upcoming season.
9:20: Philipps says her pregnancy won’t be written in on-screen.
9:22: Minor spoiler alert: Grayson makes Jules coffee in the morning and gets her wine at night, so she dubs him her “coffee bitch” and “wine bitch.”
9:23: How does Christa Miller compare to her character? “Christa is kind of meaner than her character in real life,” Lawrence says. (They’re married.) “Edgier, not meaner.” (She had just told stories about how he does stupid things at home, including losing his keys and forgetting their alarm code.)
9:25: Lawrence says the problem with their season 3 grassroot efforts for promoting the show was that in the thousands of fans they met, no one had a Nielsen box.
