CASTLE: Andrew Marlowe Teases Episode 100

Last time I spoke with CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe, he admitted he was “just starting to think about” the upcoming episode 100 (which is set to air in spring). So when he and I chatted earlier today — and since he and his wife/fellow writer Terri Edda Miller are currently hard at work on the episode — I couldn’t resist digging to see what they had landed on for the big milestone.
“Here’s what we decided,” Marlowe teased. “The Bracken episode, episode 13, of this year, was pretty grand and operatic, and we’re also coming out of the two-parter [which is set to kick off on Monday, February 18th], which is [also] pretty grand and operatic. What I wanted for the 100th episode was a real classic, fun, bouncy, CASTLE episode, with some great Castle-Beckett stuff in it. Something that’s really a quintessential example of what we do here. That’s really what I’m aiming for. We’re going to be hitting some big notes towards the end of the season and I didn’t want to steal any thunder from that. So what I’m hoping for is an episode the fans just love for all the reasons they love CASTLE.”
And while the series hasn’t been shy about casting big name guest stars in the past, Marlowe indicated that the plan is to make the 100th hour more about the characters that keep fans tuning in every week.
“More our cast celebrating the achievement and milestone [versus guest stars],” he confirmed. “And you know, it falls in a funny place; it’s not in sweeps. We’ve certainly blown some money on the two-parter and we have to buy some of that back…it helps [to go smaller] in the scope of our season, because as much as 100 means a lot in terms of a round number, it’s also an episode that lies in an odd place in our season. And I feel like I have to honor a season of viewership, so we can go out with a bang and we’re not stealing thunder from the stuff we want to do later in the season.”

All I want is Castle and Beckett behaving like a couple and not brother and sister ( with only 2 or 3 lame kisses in 13 episodes).This season has been a letdown so far.

I disagree, but whatever. Some fans are never satisfied.
I am loving this season and Caskett and nothing sister and brotherly about them.
I am loving this season and those lame and dark kisses and the hugs and the way they.solve crimes together and well… Nathan and Stana rock!
Some fans expected to.see fan fic on tv. So glad Marlowe didn’t go that route!

Thanks for the interview. I love how Marlowe thinks about all of the fans of Castle. Not just the ungrateful shippers who aren’t satisfied with anything this season has given them. There’s more to a relationship than groping each other all the time.

I loved Cuffed! I can’t wait to see what MilMar bring next! I am so excited for the 2 parter and expect it to be pretty heavy on our couple! I think this season has been pretty good. I wish some would stop complaining about wanting to see everything RIGHT NOW and realize some things simply wont be shown, but implied instead. I am so glad that I get to see my fav duo solving cases and trying to find their way in this relationship. I am patient enough to wait for the goodies, if the physicality is all you care about, but enjoying the journey that Marlowe has created for the best characters on tv!

Sounds like episode 100 could be the bottle ep if he’s talking about saving money. I love this season so far, it’s just great and I can’t wait what MilMar has planned for us!
The episode will be fabulous. Great Caskett moments are a plus. Hope the whole precinct has a gathering at the Old Haunt and enjoys some bubbly together. Can’t wait. Go Andrew and Terri!

I’m still waiting for a real heart-to-heart between Castle and his daughter about the Castle-Beckett relationship – – and where Castle thinks it’s going.
great news! This series is so well written and wonderfully acted it is always a joy to watch! But it will be especially fun to see some more C&B time, hopefully funny,feisty and perhaps a cuddle or two!! All involved with this show should be proud of their work…this series will go down as Classic in the true meaning of the word!
Episode 100 should revolve around Rysposito consummating their love for each other. I would gladly sit through an hour of that.
The way they talk about 5×17 and 5×19 (5×18 is focused on Ryan) seems to imply that Alexis survives her kidnapping. The descriptions read like normal “Castle” episode descriptions, which wouldn’t be the case if Castle’s daughter had just been killed. Also, if Castle’s daughter has just been killed, it doesn’t seem like we would be hearing words like “fun” and “charming” used to describe future episodes.”What I wanted for the 100th episode was a real classic, fun, bouncy, CASTLE episode, with some great Castle-Beckett stuff in it.” This description also makes no sense if Castle’s daughter has just been killed, implying she won’t be.
Alexis’s death would destroy the Castle/Beckett relationship. “Don’t. Don’t promise to find her if you can’t, because I could never forgive you if you did–anymore than I could forgive myself.”
