THE NEWSROOM at PaleyFest: Aaron Sorkin on the Scope of Season 2 and Their Famous Fans
March 4, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
During THE NEWSROOM’s first season, the series touched on a wide range of real-life news stories, from the BP oil spill, to the death of Osama bin Laden.
Before the PaleyFest panel honoring his series, I spoke with THE NEWSROOM creator Aaron Sorkin about what the scope of season 2 will be, plus he shared which newscaster is “stalking” the show…

And during the panel, Sorkin teased a little bit more about what’s to come: “There’s one story that’s running through the entire season…but we have the election, the primaries, the conventions, Treyvon Martin, the Supreme Court’s decision on the Affordable Care Act, drones…we just get up to Sandy Hook.”
But just because they’ll be ending the season around the time of Sandy Hook, that doesn’t mean they’ll be touching on it this year for sure.
“Looking down at the calendar at Sandy Hook, that’s my fear,” Sorkin said, referring to his reluctance to touch on a story if what he would write would cheapen the tragedy. “You’ve got to be careful…doing a story like Sandy Hook, there are so many landmines out there to step on. So you really want to make sure you don’t do a disservice to a story like this.”
