THE NEW NORMAL at PaleyFest: NeNe Leakes on Fan Reaction and the Panel Teases About What’s to Come
March 7, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
One of the great things about PaleyFest is that actors from newer shows get the chance to see what kind of impact their show is making on the audience that tunes in every week.
Of course, for THE NEW NORMAL costar NeNe Leakes (Rocky), dealing with fans is nothing new. I spoke with Leakes before the panel about what kind of feedback she has gotten, and what her hopes for the night were…

During the panel, THE NEW NORMAL co-creator Ryan Murphy teased a bit of what’s to come when the comedy returns to NBC in April.
“We’ve been building towards David and Bryan getting married, and we’re building towards the baby being born,” Murphy shared. “I think [we’re building to] Georgia [King]’s character [Goldie] really deciding if she’s going to get back with Clay or continue on this independent path she has created. And NeNe becoming the queen of the world as a producer.”
And the season finale will be featuring a very special twist: one act will be sans dialogue.
“Wouldn’t it be great if we had an act that didn’t have any words?” Murphy recalled discussing with THE NEW NORMAL co-creator Ali Adler. “So we really plotted this out…Ali’s favorite song and one of my favorite songs is ‘Beautiful Boy’ by John Lennon. So we reached out to [his wife] Yoko Ono to use that song for an entire act with no [dialogue] and she said yes.”
“The marriage and the baby don’t happen in a way that you think it will,” Adler teased.
