AMERICAN HORROR STORY at PaleyFest: Season 3 Details Revealed!

Get ready for AMERICAN HORROR STORY to tackle witches.
During Friday night’s PaleyFest panel honoring AMERICAN HORROR STORY, co-creator Ryan Murphy announced that the title of the upcoming third season will be AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN. Unlike the previous seasons, season 3 will take its production partially out of Los Angeles, as it will film a bit in New Orleans and other cities that are related to the plot.
And while many of the AMERICAN HORROR STORY regulars will be returning for season 3, the cast will get extra star power thanks to Kathy Bates signing to appear in the show.
“You know I love a good Oscar winner,” Murphy said. “I’ve loved her since the first time I saw her on stage and I loved her film work.”
Murphy said he had wanted to work with her for a while, and he met up with Bates to pitch her what he wanted her to do on the show, telling her she could take some time to think about whether she wanted to be a part of AMERICAN HORROR season 3. Luckily for him, it didn’t take that long for Bates to decide: “My phone rang an hour later [with her saying], ‘I’m in.'”
While the panelists were a bit vague about what’s to come next year, it seems like viewers should expect some drama between Bates and AHS’ resident diva, Jessica Lange.
“I wanted to see a lot of scenes of Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it, so that’s what you’ll see,” Murphy teased.
For her part, Bates — who joined the panel midway through — seemed delighted to be working on the show.
“I’m so excited,” she enthused. “I’ve loved it from the very beginning.”
In fact, she was such a fan of the series that she told Lange — her friend and costar in two movies — that she would love to pop up on the show some time.
“‘Oh God, talk to Ryan, tell him I’ll do anything to be on the show,'” Bates recalled telling Lange. “And little did I know, it came about. It was just a miracle.”

It’s going to awesome to see the cast and crew of American Horror Story take on the supernatural next season. I’m excited to see them shoot on location in New Orleans as well, and I can’t wait to see how much is done on location. When the new season airs this fall I’ll be working nights at DISH, so I won’t be home to watch the premiere. Thankfully that won’t be an issue because I can watch during my commute in every week on my iPad using the new DISH Anywhere app. It allows me to stream live TV broadcasts or programs from my DVR, anywhere I go with internet access.
