CASTLE Season 5 Finale: ‘Watershed’ Reaction Post – What Just Happened?!
May 13, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
[Warning: This post contains massive, massive spoilers for the CASTLE season finale, “Watershed.” If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch it now and then come back to share your thoughts!]
So, did you see that coming?
CASTLE’s fifth season finale — and many of the final episodes of the year, really — played up the tension between Castle and Beckett as she debated what she wanted to do with her career and they figured out where they stood as a couple. Heck, his mom voiced that it was possible Castle hadn’t fully committed because he knew this wasn’t the right relationship. Even as “Watershed” was winding down, it seemed like the duo was headed towards a split…at least professionally, if not personally.
And then Castle whipped out a ring and popped the question.
Will Beckett say yes? We’re going to have to wait all summer to find out.
But in the meantime, I want to know what you think! Is it too soon? Should she say yes? Are you happy with this development? Vote in our poll and then sound off in the comments below!
Be honest…are you counting down the minutes until the show returns?

I think the poor guy looked like he had a gun to his head. I can’t decide if they decided to sacrifice romantic and heartfelt just to maintain the surprise factor or if it was that way because that feeds into what happens next…
The way the scene developed, if he hadn’t popped the question, then she certainly would have headed for Washington and the show would be over.
This way, the coming season can be filled with off-again,on-again marriage plans and whether or not he can still work with her in the precinct, Oh, and whose apartment gets vacated.
The first thing I did after it ended was going to IMdB to check the date for S06E01, so I could count down the seconds, minutes are too long. 🙂 (No date yet, btw.)
He could either break it off or pop the question, so that really was a no brainer for him. As for her, I think she decided to stay anyway, during that “this has been my home” speech to the suspect. If not, then this has been a 5-year long FAKE love story, and there is no show that could survive that.
I agree with Natasha. The this is my home speech made me think she was gonna stay anyways. I’m just so pissed they ended in without an answer.
I do not understand the problem. She can take the job and still say yes. He can move to Washington – nothing holds him in New York except the 4 regular actors who would be out of work if the story shifts to the capital.
I got involved watching this show just this season. I went back and watched the other seasons. I could not have waited 5 years for them to get together. I would have quit about Season 3 if I had not seen them together.
A husband and wife detective team has worked since the Thin Man series. It would be a good move.
i cannot handle this . from season 1 to this ! what a selfish bitch lost all love for her in the last 4 episodes . she has lied through the whole series . i am done , she cannot make up for the betrail to him . no season 6 for me .
Sean: IMO, Not having her answer is merely a “come-on” to keep us interested until the next season rolls around.
BTW: That wasn’t a very good looking ring.
I have to say, that was the most disturbing marriage proposal I have ever heard…
The negativity towards the relationship builds throughout the whole episode until she comes to tell him she is leaving to forward her life and he acts more like he is going to punch her in the teeth than propose. Then, bingo!
Downright creepy…
If I were her, I’d board the first plane to DC.
Well, they said viewers would have a strong reaction. I guess repulsion qualifies.
What Happen to “OUR” Castle & Beckett!! There was no laughter or any of those special looks at each other during the entire episode. ! I love this show because no matter how grim things get there is always a scene that lightens the mood!!.not this week. Since when did Kate think being a Fed was more important then being a NYC Cop! She is amazing, but how many times has Ryan or Espo Or Castle had to come to her rescue.!! When did she become so ambitious she had to lied to the man who has proven time after time how much he cares by what he does.. Like stay in a room with her as she stood on a Bomb when everyone else on the Planet would have left !! I am
really looking forward to Season 6 to see how they work this one out!!
I just plain loved it. I was so worried that Marlowe was going to break up them up again, and yet both Castle and Beckett handled it well
It’s so nice to see two adults on TV being… well, adult.
I think it was really well played and true to character.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Rick had bought that ring as soon as they got together. He is confident and romantic and truly in love with Kate. He waited more than a year, seriously in love, for Kate to come to him, (though he almost gave up near the end of season 4).
Kate is damaged, wary and until meeting Rick had decided to have a career orientated life, only dating men who weren’t really going to be a serious commitment. She can’t overcome that entirely in just a few months of a relationship no matter how much she loves Rick. She’s used to being on her own and in control. It’s a hard habit to break.
Of course she should say yes and accept the messy, uncontrollable happy life that will ensue and I’m sure she will, eventually. Give her a break.
I’m with CJ!
That was one angst-ridden, complicated episode! The proposal was very serious, but I’m ok with that. I want her to say YES!
Can anyone explain to me why both Castle and LKate. When asked if they were together in a relationship by a third part… They both would deny or say “it’s complicated or difficult or something to that effect. Any relationship is complicated or ldifficult… You have to work at it!
