Dean Winchester, most definitely. He was reduced to a caretaker and servant for his brother in season 8, didn’t have any storyline in season 7 and the last time he had a part in the mytharc was in season 5 but he was replaced by Adam in the last minute and was told, literally: “You’re not a part of this anymore.” Ever since then he had no real storyline, no importance to the mytharc, was just a support for others. He really needs a mytharc storyline that is about himself and his role.

  2. Sunny on June 28th, 2013 1:50 pm

Definitely Dean Winchester. He deserves to be the one in the spotlight for a change.

  3. CJ on June 28th, 2013 2:08 pm

Dean Winchester – for one of 2 main characters he’s been neglected in the story line department for far too long.

  4. Kate on June 28th, 2013 2:13 pm

Dean Winchester. I’ve had it to here with him being the chauffeur of destiny and doing nothing but revolve around Sam. Being an awesome big brother is a character trait, not a storyline.

  5. Restless on June 28th, 2013 2:17 pm

Castiel always gets a pretty good storyline. Buuuuut… the vast majority of it takes place off screen! Which is a crying shame especially when at the end it’s so often made out to have been a driving force of the overall arc of the season all along. So it’s like a main part of the plot gets shoved aside for lame monster of the weeks that have ten minutes of action, maybe, very little character development and no real relevance to the rest of the show.

So it’s not that Castiel is in need of a storyline. It’s that he’s in need of one that we actually get to see.

  6. rosa on June 28th, 2013 2:44 pm

I agree with Restless, I’d be great if we got to actually see Castiel’s storyline, too much is being told off screan.

  7. Kay on June 28th, 2013 2:49 pm

Of the five options in this poll, it’s incredible that Dean is the only one who is one of two LEADS in his show and yet hasn’t had a story since mid-season 5. Yeah, a drinking problem that magically disappears, is not a storyline. So, I want a storyline for Dean and I want to actually be able to see Castiel’s storyline onscreen.

  8. zoe on June 28th, 2013 2:57 pm

    DEAN WINCHESTER.

Jensen has given so much to the show it’s time they gave something back.

  9. chriscross on June 28th, 2013 3:00 pm

DEAN WINCHESTER. They’re wasting the talents of Jensen Ackles. He can do more than drive the car and hug woobie Sammy.

  10. Scarlett on June 28th, 2013 3:05 pm

My vote has to go to Dean. It was such a shame Purgatory was only a small portion of the season, because it (and Dean/Jensen) ROCKED.

  11. Marie on June 28th, 2013 3:59 pm

Dean Winchester. It’s ridiculous that one of the leads of the show did not have a personal story arc during the second half of season 8. Even secondary characters had more of a story.

  12. silver on June 28th, 2013 4:06 pm

Dean hasn’t had a storyline in 3 1/2 years. Yet he’s the character that still carries the show. Carver really dropped the ball when he ended the purgatory story, then turned Dean into just a cook and servant for Sam. Dean needs a story. Supernatural is suffering from redundancy, mediocrity and boringness because the writers can’t seem to tell any other story but what is wrong with Sam, how Sam is once again the chosen one, and how Dean must learn, for the millionth time, that Sam is special and he must love Sam above all things. I’ve yet to see Sam even learn 1/3 of the lessons about love and brotherhood that Dean’s been forced to rehash every season.

  13. debbie webster on June 28th, 2013 5:24 pm

Dean definatly needs a story line in season 9. purgatory was a goog start with Dean at the beginnig of S8, then he gotside lined for Sam being the choosern one and getting ill again, all we had Dean do was play nurse maid to Sam again,. Castiel,s Storyline was far more interesting . Now give us an interesting Dean storyline were Sam looks after him for a change.

  14. MythArc4Dean on June 28th, 2013 8:23 pm

Dean has been in need of a decent storyline – ie one that doesn’t have him simply worrying about his brother’s most recent of many Supernatural ailments – for so long it’s not even funny. Some can complain that the writing isn’t great for Sam and Cas either, but at least they GET storylines – even if they are possibly failed ones – with Dean the writers don’t even try. They can’t even be bothered to mention him in interviews and there’s no point having any interest in spoilers if you are a Dean fan, as there are hardly any. Comic Con two years ago still leaves a bitter taste, it was literally Dean Who? I hope Dean wins this poll, I really do, because I want to send the result to the producers. It’s been three years now since they ditched Dean from the show’s main plot with Swan Song, and enough is enough.

  15. annie on June 28th, 2013 9:11 pm

Aw man, this is difficult. Both Dean AND Cas are in need of their own storyline, it seems that whenever they start to get one, it’ll suddenly end or continue off screen. :/ I’m keeping my fingers crossed that s9 fixes this! :3

  16. Lee on June 29th, 2013 1:38 am

Dean deserves a storyline! Not only is he one of the leads of the show, but his almost stories are so intriguing that I want to see at least one of them played out to the end and not given to Sam while at the same time shooing Dean off to the pantry where he can butler for all the other characters on the show. Jensen/Dean is wonderful, he deserves better and the show needs him to have a storyline.

  17. E Novak on June 29th, 2013 3:29 am

This is another poll where I really wish I could vote for two options! Restless made a very good point above about how we never get to see Castiel’s storyline because most of it ends up taking place off screen, which is just a shame, so I would love to see Castiel get a great storyline that occurs on screen. However, I also have to agree with everyone else that Dean needs a great storyline of his own. I haven’t been quite as disappointed as some with what he’s been given in the past couple of seasons, but with such an awesome character and amazing actor, he definitely needs a good, juicy myth arc all of his own.
Honestly, what I hope most for Season 9 is that Dean, Castiel, and Sam all three have great storylines, but also storylines that keep the three of them together more than they are apart. I love it best when Team Free Will is in action, like back in Season 5…the good ole’ days of the apocalypse. 😉

  18. Crowley on June 30th, 2013 10:09 am

This category was made for Dean Winchester. Jensen is too talented to just be relegated to a support role, whose only role is to worry and cook for the chosen one.

Not only do I want to see Dean have a storyline but I’d like to see it tied to the main arc, and not dropped after 3 or 4 episodes or handed over to a minor character or Sam.

Also I’d like to see it revolve around Dean or someone going after Dean. They have a good set up for it.

If Metatron was in any way competant he would realize that Dean is a big factor as to why all their plans failed.

It would be a good arc if Metatron sent all his forces or came after Dean in an attempt to neutralize him, and Sam and Cas can worry about Dean for a change.

  19. Sara on June 30th, 2013 2:46 pm

I’ll second the thought/idea that this category was made for Dean Winchester-now, if only someone with some writing clout on Supernatural would notice and DO something about it already…

  20. Kimberley on July 1st, 2013 12:35 am

Lanie from Castle, she’s way too awesome to waste such awesomeness, not to mention Tamala’s talent at portraying said awesomeness. But I think Tamala’s going to get her storyline next season so all is right with the world.

  21. sushrita on July 1st, 2013 11:21 am

can Dean Winchester just get his storyline right about now

  22. Sywren on July 1st, 2013 12:28 pm

Dean. The last 2 seasons have made a departure from the first 6 season’s depth. So much going on behind the scenes that you felt it/thought about it/figured things out, while watching the other, stand-alone episodes. It’s gotta be more about Dean.

  23. oppar on July 1st, 2013 10:55 pm

i’d have to vote dean on this one. castiel doesn’t lack for storylines, what he lacks is for them to play out more on screen. he actually gets some pretty cool storylines and what sucks about him being pushed to the background, for useless filler eps about witches banging dogs or whatever, is that castiel’s arcs usually play wonderfully off of dean’s character and pull him forward into mytharcs and further reaching arcs than making soup and carrying folks…

dean really hasn’t had a storyline all his own for quite a bit now and the ones he does have are either not explored properly like his slow descent into alcoholism and depression in s7 or are dropped after a very promising start a la purgatory in s8.

i’d personally like to see the angel tablet used as a bridge point for both dean and castiel but used in different ways. by pulling dean into the mytharc through either having him deal with the tablet and then by exploring castiel’s emotional arc surrounding heaven and the angels on screen through aiding in those tasks. bonus points if they tie the righetous man mytharc back in as to why dean is connected to the tablet and build off of why naomi was so focused on dean with castiel.

extra bonus if sam actively fixes himself and they use that to actually push him out of a reactionary and passive story telling that’s been going on for a while now.

  24. Codra Foymal on July 2nd, 2013 7:17 am

    Castiel needs a bigger storyline!!!

  25. Penny on July 2nd, 2013 4:09 pm

Honestly, I would vote for Sam Winchester getting a sympathetic point of view and insight into his character storyline on the show.

The best story ever: Dean kills Castiel for all the evil he’s done and no shipper squick inserted in for fanservice. Dean and Cas scenes are pretty much unwatchable for me now. Even old ones, just get it off me get it off me, Show.

@Oppar, “i’d personally like to see the angel tablet used as a bridge point for both dean and castiel but used in different ways. by pulling dean into the mytharc through either having him deal with the tablet and then by exploring castiel’s emotional arc surrounding heaven and the angels on screen through aiding in those tasks. bonus points if they tie the righetous man mytharc back in as to why dean is connected to the tablet and build off of why naomi was so focused on dean with castiel.

Yes, I love all those ideas!!! I just really want Dean, Sam, and Castiel all three to have great story lines for Season 9. I’d love for the show to balance the emotional story arcs of the characters with their myth-arc story lines, and just have lots of the three of them working as a team again…and of course, I personally would love to have many, many great scenes between Dean and Castiel! I love their relationship so much!

  27. Kate on July 3rd, 2013 1:13 pm

Dean Winchester, hands down. Castiel does have his own storylines, there’s no denying that he does. Dean has been used as a reactionary piece season after season and consistently Jensen busts out amazing performances. And consistently we see storylines that are shaping up to be about him wind up being all about Sam, or they’re dropped completely and abruptly after a few disappointing episodes. Dean deserves a storyline where he can be the focus and Sam can be the one that’s reacting for once. He was reduced to a caretaker in season eight and it was beyond disappointing. The writers need to realize that Dean can be used as much more than some emotional pole to react to Cas and Sam and for both of them to lean on and beat up when they need to.

  28. cassandra on July 4th, 2013 5:49 pm

dean obviously, he did’nt have a story arc for seasons now & everytime it seems he is going to get one either get dropped (like purgatory & pstd) either get passed to sam like the mol & the trials, in s8 alone 4 possible arcs gone. as for cas i adore him but it’s pretty obvious from s8 finale that he will have at least 1 thing to do dealing with being human + it’s highly possible he will get the angel tab trials in order to redeem himself, unless of course they come out with some trick out of their as*** & pass that one to sam too, & no i’m not holding my breath that they will give it to dean given the history of the show since they always drop his arcs or pass them to others & jensen is suppose to be a lead but for sure they don’t treat him as such. btw misha being regular in s9 will consist in appearing in 14 episodes (seems misha said it at aecon), so all good for s9, should be worry abt s10 instead

  29. Kat on July 6th, 2013 12:17 am

Dean!!!! Please!!!! He’s one of the best fictional characters ever! But also Team Free Will all working together! Coz who doesn’t love that? 🙂
