ARROW: Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns Tease The Flash’s Introduction and Impact on Starling City

July 30, 2013 by

ARROW may be just getting ready for its second season, but already The CW is looking to expand the DC universe — ARROW will officially be bringing in Barry Allen (Flash) for an arc during the upcoming season of ARROW with the hopes of spinning it off.

“It really started with [ARROW executive producer] Greg Berlanti,” ARROW executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told reporters on a conference call this afternoon. “The Flash was his favorite character as a kid growing up, and he’s obviously been a strong, personal favorite of [ARROW executive producer] Geoff [Johns] and mine. So when Greg approached us one day and said, ‘What do you think if we did Flash as a spinoff?,’ all of us lit up. Despite the fact that he has super powers, there’s something very relatable about Barry of all the big seven of the Justice League. He got his powers by accident; he’s not a god, he’s not an alien. He wasn’t seeking this out, it came to him. So his reaction to that feels very human and grounded…Oliver Queen is a very dark and tortured soul, and Barry is not. I think it’ll be fun…to see these two characters together, because they both have distinctly different world views, while deeply caring about right and wrong.”

“And Barry’s somebody who is a cop,” Johns teased. “He follows the law, he follows the rules, he’s the last person in the world who would ever think about being a vigilante.”

In fact, Barry will be working for the good guys when ARROW viewers are first introduced to him. (Barry is currently scheduled to appear in episodes 8, 9, and 20 — all of which written by Berlanti, Kreisberg, and Johns, while episode 20 will be directed by David Nutter.)

Comments Off on CAPTURE: Luke Tipple Teases the New CW Reality Competition

The CW is debuting a brand new reality series tonight, CAPTURE, where twelve duos face off in an attempt to be the last team standing. From the show’s official description, the teams “enter the Hunting Grounds, a high-tech wilderness compound, where they must live in primitive conditions for one month in a winner-take-all battle to survive.  At the mercy of the Game Master, the teams compete against each other for scarce resources and a $250,000 grand prize.” Needless to say, it gets pretty brutal as the teams realize just how difficult things are going to get.

I spoke with CAPTURE host Luke Tipple about the series, getting to be the Game Master, and more…

SUPERNATURAL: Jeremy Carver and Robert Singer Tease the Upcoming Potential Spinoff

July 30, 2013 by

Fresh off THE ORIGINALS — THE VAMPIRE DIARIES spinoff — making it to the fall CW schedule, another popular show is getting the spinoff treatment this upcoming season: SUPERNATURAL.

“They came to us; I think [The CW] wanted to do a spinoff,” SUPERNATURAL executive producer Robert Singer told me of the upcoming backdoor pilot, which is currently scheduled to be the 20th episode of the season (and he’s scheduled to direct). “I think what we pitched them, which they seem very excited about, is probably not what they expected.”

Which means if you were hoping one of the characters you already know and love from SUPERNATURAL was about to get a show dedicated to them — like Klaus and the Originals family did with THE ORIGINALS — you may be a tiny bit disappointed.

Comments Off on MOM Books Justin Long and Octavia Spencer

MOM has already booked some big-name guest stars for its early part of the season: Justin Long and Octavia Spencer!

MOM co-creator Chuck Lorre announced the news during the comedy’s Television Critics Association session today, noting that Long will play a love interest for series star Anna Faris’ Christy.

“Poor bastard doesn’t know what he’s in for,” Lorre laughed. “He’s going to be her first shot at a meaningful relationship.”

As for Spencer — who will appear in the show’s fifth episode  — she’ll play a “woman who has bigger problems than Christy,” per Lorre.

Which guest star are you most excited about?
