Will Natalie Zea Return for Season 2 of THE FOLLOWING?
July 12, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
When THE FOLLOWING season 1 concluded, things didn’t look so great for Claire Matthews: after being saved from her serial killer/cult leader ex-husband, Joe Carroll, Claire returned to the seemingly safety of her former boyfriend, Ryan’s home — only for both of them to get brutally attacked by one of Joe’s followers with a vendetta against Ryan.
Out of the two, Claire certainly seemed to get the worst of it, and whether those wounds prove to be fatal or not, it appears that Natalie Zea (Claire) is not completely off the series — TV Guide Magazine is reporting that Zea has inked a deal to return to THE FOLLOWING for season 2.
“My concern, and [THE FOLLOWING creator] Kevin Williamson’s concern, was always, is there more story to tell with Claire?” Zea told the magazine of the original hesitancy. “And we both discovered that maybe there wasn’t.”
It seems something changed their minds. (A rep for the show had no comment on the report.)
After the finale aired, Williamson confirmed to Give Me My Remote that various endings had been shot to give the show some wiggle room.
“Well, the endings were variations on what you did see,” Williamson said at the time. “We filmed further than that [final shot]. We filmed more of that. We filmed the lighthouse [where Joe and Ryan fought]. We filmed more of everything. We completed the scene several different ways so people could live or people could die.”
However, with Zea signed on for more (there’s no word on the length of her new contract), it seems like the odds of Claire making it out of the apartment alive have slightly gone up. Now, whether she survives is a whole other matter…
What do you think? Do you hope Claire makes it?
