When HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas went into last season, they wrote the first part of it thinking it would be the final year. But then, things changed and the cast signed on for a ninth (and final) season…altering a bit of the storytelling the men would be able to tell before their show signed off for good.
