SEAN SAVES THE WORLD Boss on Beefing Up Megan Hilty’s Role in the Show

For SMASH fans lamenting the loss of Megan Hilty on our television screens every week, there’s good news: she’ll be having a major presence on the new NBC comedy, SEAN SAVES THE WORLD.

While Hilty wasn’t in the show’s original pilot (you can actually see Lindsay Sloane in the comedy’s trailer), her addition has led the creative team to rethink some of their plans for her character.

“The character has now become more central to the show,” SEAN SAVES THE WORLD executive producer Victor Fresco said during their Television Critics Association session. “They’ve known each other for 15 years and Megan[‘s character] was the caterer at Sean’s [character’s] wedding and she knew he was gay.”

“That history allows them to be good friends,” Fresco continued. But with that friendship, comes the potential for trauma: due to their long friendship, there may be a bit of a battle over whom is the real “surrogate mother” to Sean’s teenage daughter — Hilty’s character (who is a bit wild) or Sean’s mother, whom Sean has a tense relationship with.
