Julie Plec on Syncing Up THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and THE ORIGINALS, and Retelling THE ORIGINALS’ Backdoor Pilot
August 9, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
Filed under The Originals, The Vampire Diaries
THE ORIGINALS may have made its debut as a backdoor pilot during last season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, but if potential new viewers missed that, the CW series has a creative way of catching everyone up on what went down — the official first episode of THE ORIGINALS will be retelling what happened in “The Originals” episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES from Elijah’s point of view.
“It’s so cool, because it tells you everything that happens when we were watching Klaus do his thing, and meet up with Marcel, and try to get to the bottom of his own mystery [in the backdoor pilot],” THE ORIGINALS/THE VAMPIRE DIARIES executive producer Julie Plec told reporters after the Television Critics Association panel for her new series. “It’s the story of a brother coming into town to try and figure out what happened with his younger, black sheep brother. So he’s kind of playing detective a bit. We get to see scenes that existed in the [backdoor] pilot, but more from Elijah’s point of view. And he believes when he learns of [Hayley’s] pregnancy that it will be that easy to convince his brother to jump on board. So to watch Elijah jump on board and declare how simple it will be, and then to have Klaus reject the baby will be [Elijah’s] powerful moment, as opposed to the pilot where it was Klaus’ powerful moment…and by the last act, we’re moving past that night, and everything we see is new, and it tees up the series.”

“I’m having a blast working on BONES,” Rikaart told Soap Opera Digest, who broke the casting news. “Such a welcoming, talented group of people here and this story is amazing. It’s a fun character too, who is so different from Kevin.”
Rikaart’s episode of BONES is currently slated to air Monday, September 23rd at 8 PM on Fox.

SCANDAL: Guillermo Diaz on the ‘Fierce Loyalty’ at Pope & Associates, Another Huck Flashback, and More
August 8, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
As SCANDAL exploded in popularity last season, it became very apparent that due to the “WTF is going on?!” nature of the show — and how drastically the storylines could alter from one episode to the next — there was very little the actors could actually tease about what was to come without giving away too much spoilery goodness.
So it’s no surprise that when I caught up with SCANDAL star Guillermo Diaz (Huck) earlier this week, he was mum about how his character would handle Olivia being outed as the President’s mistress when the show resumes for season 3.
“I can’t really say how he’s handling it, because that would be revealing too much,” teased Diaz. “They still have that fierce loyalty to each other. He’s not judging anybody; he’s not judging her or anybody else. That’s the great thing about Pope & Associates: they’ve all done really bad things and really great things, and none of them are in a place to judge, and they’re all in it together. They all have each other’s backs.”
However, Diaz was able to share that season 3 will once again dive into Huck’s past…and he’ll be dealing with the ramifications of enabling Quinn’s newfound love of torture.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Nigel Lythgoe on a Potential Season 11

Last week, Fox Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly told reporters after his Television Critics Association session that he was hopeful about SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE returning the following season. And since the TCA made a stop over at the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE set earlier this week, I wanted see how SYTYCD executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe was feeling about continuing on with the show.
“My hopes are definitely for an eleventh season, of course,” he told me. “I haven’t heard any feedback so far…Since we provided almost half of their Emmy nominations, hopefully that will have a bearing on whether we’re invited back.”
Are you hoping SYTYCD returns next season?
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airs Tuesdays at 8 PM on Fox.

Comments Off on SUPERNATURAL: Jeremy Carver Teases Returning Guest Stars
Over its eight seasons on the air, SUPERNATURAL has collected quite the roster of guest stars. And sure, they’ve killed off a good number of characters, but death is rarely a massive deterrent on this show.
Case in point? Jim Beaver’s Bobby Singer is set to make another return to SUPERNATURAL, despite being killed off in season 7.
And who else might be coming back? At Comic-Con, SUPERNATURAL showrunner Jeremy Carver shared a little intel about which fan faves might be popping up again…

Fresh off of the success of UNDER THE DOME, CBS has ordered 13 episodes of a new summer series for 2014.
According to CBS, “EXTANT is a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.”
“EXTANT is a very original concept with layers of humanity, mystery and surprise that reveal itself throughout the script,” said Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment in a statement. “Our partnership with Amblin for UNDER THE DOME showed that viewers respond to high-quality event programming in the summer. We look forward to building on that with EXTANT and offering CBS audiences another high-concept, unique event for summer television.”

WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?: Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie on the Show’s Renewal and Continued Popularity
August 6, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
Filed under Whose Line is it Anyway?
Whenever a canceled show is revived in one form or the other, it runs the risk of not quite living up to the nostalgia that made us yearn for more. But thankfully for The CW’s WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?, viewers tuned in for the funny-as-ever improv series…which led to the show already getting renewed for an expanded “second” season.
“I think we had a feeling it would do well,” WHOSE LINE star Colin Mochrie told me after the renewal news was announced. “Just because ever since the first show ended, people were always going on Facebook and Twitter, ‘Bring back WHOSE LINE.’ What I loved is that they were like, ‘Why don’t you bring back the show?’ As if we had that power. So we knew there was an appetite for it. And [The CW boss] Mark Pedowitz was at ABC when we did the first show, so I think once he moved here, he was just trying to get it back. And I think some people thought The CW was an odd choice because of the younger demographic, but our fans are younger. All of us that have been touring have noticed our fans are getting younger, thanks to YouTube. They weren’t born during the first incarnation, and they’re discovering how funny we were in the last century.”
