BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: What You Need to Know About the New Fox Series
September 17, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
There are approximately one million new shows debuting this season*, and it’s going to get difficult to keep track of them all.
To help you out, for every new show, I’m going to basically create a hub of info on the day of the premiere — pilot photos, my quick take on the pilot (or what I’ve seen so far), what’s been written about it so far, and when you can watch it.
Next up, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE…
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: From Emmy Award-winning writer/producers of "Parks and Recreation" and starring Emmy Award winners Andy Samberg (C) and Andre Braugher (third from R), BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is a new single-camera workplace comedy about what happens when a hotshot detective (Samberg) gets a new Captain (Braugher) with a lot to prove. The new single-camera workplace comedy BROOKLYN NINE-NINE premieres this fall on FOX. *Maybe not scientifically correct. But close enough.
Fox’s description: “Detective JAKE PERALTA (Andy Samberg) is a talented, but carefree police detective at Brooklyn’s 99th precinct who, along with his eclectic group of colleagues, are used to having a lax captain around the office. However, when tightly-wound Captain RAY HOLT (Andre Braugher) takes over, he is determined to make this dysfunctional group of detectives into the best precinct in Brooklyn.”
My take: One of the best new comedies of the season. While the pilot clearly introduces the world of the show, it also feels like these people have been working together for years. The first episode manages to be both laugh-out-loud funny and have heart — a rare combo.
