About Last Night…THE VOICE, PERSON OF INTEREST, and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
November 27, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
The holidays are limiting what’s on TV, but we still had a few good options. Let’s talk about Tuesday’s television…
THE VOICE: Based on the iTunes rankings, I wasn’t surprised that Ray and Matthew were in the bottom 3, but I was a bit surprised Caroline would up there, too. While I kind of figured Caroline would make it to the semi-finals (at least), once Matthew did indeed make it to the bottom 3, I’m not surprised (or upset) he was saved. Let’s see what this does for him going into next week’s show.
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: I. Love. This. Show. Um, of course Amy thought she could substitute salt for baking soda. (WHO DOESN’T HAVE SALT?) I love the dynamic of holiday episodes, because it brings people together, whether they want to be brought together or not. These guys? So insane, but so much fun together.
PERSON OF INTEREST: The fallout from Carter’s death was just heartbreaking. The opening montage to “Hurt” was gripping, and yet not cheesy. (Which I can’t imagine was easy. They played the entire song, it could have felt like a schmaltzy music video.) With Reese on his own and the rest of the team grieving and trying to save him, I was curious who would end up taking out Simmons — at first it felt like it should be Reese, but the idea of it being Fusco had a certain poetic ring, too. But man, in the midst of all of the trauma, how great was it for Fusco to refuse to kill Simmons, pointing out that Carter had changed him, saved him, and he wouldn’t ruin that to get revenge. Loved that Elias — who had his own loyalty to Carter — was the one to ultimately orchestrate Simmons death, getting a “friend” to do the deed as he watched. It wouldn’t have felt right to keep Simmons alive, but I’m kind of glad it played out the way it did.
