COSMOS: Seth MacFarlane on the Challenges of Making an Ambitious Series and Why Fox Was the Right Network to Air It

March 6, 2014 by

Seth MacFarlane has a long history with Fox, from his animated comedies (FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, and THE CLEVELAND SHOW) to his recent turn as an executive producer on the live-action sitcom, DADS, and now, he’s attached to one of the network’s more ambitious shows: COSMOS, a 13-part series hosted by astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson that explores how our grasp of the universe has changed over the years. (It’s a stunning undertaking — and a bit baffling to imagine how Carl Sagan and co-writers Ann Druyan and Steven Soter pulled it off during the first version 1980 — and still manages to be completely entertaining.)

At the show’s premiere this week, MacFarlane talked with reporters about what prompted him to get involved with this show, the challenges they faced, and what he hopes viewers get from the series…

COSMOS premieres Sunday, March 9th at 9 PM on Fox.

I refuse to watch something educational on FOX at that time. I can watch it on a science channel if I want. You dont have Cleveland Brown on but you want to put this crap on ? Do you realize your audience On Sun nights are not interested in educational TV ?
