ARROW Set to Introduce Two More THE FLASH Characters in Episode 19
March 17, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
When Barry Allen was introduced into the ARROW world, the original plan was for the character to have a small arc at the end of 2013 and then a proper backdoor spinoff around episode 20. But then The CW opted to make THE FLASH’s pilot an official, standalone episode.
And while viewers will still have to wait until fall for more of Barry Allen if THE FLASH goes forward, later this season, ARROW will introduce a few new characters who will be regular fixtures on THE FLASH.
“The reason I’ve been holding off on tweeting out the title page of episode 19, is 19 is co-written by Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg, and Greg Berlanti, the team behind THE FLASH,” ARROW executive producer Marc Guggenheim told reporters today. “And it felt like if I tweeted that, the jig would be up…Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin, and Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco — two members of Star Labs, who are part of the regular cast of THE FLASH — do make an important appearance in episode 19 of ARROW.”
“This was something that really came about because, obviously, Barry is in a coma at the end of episode 9, and that pretty much made it impossible for Barry to appear in episode 19, 20, pick an episode of ARROW, because he has to stay in a coma until October of [next season if THE FLASH gets picked up],” Guggenheim continued. “Actually, one of our writers had a great pitch for bringing in a couple of the Star Labs characters, Cisco and Caitlin. And even though the circumstances of that pitch change, the idea of bringing in those characters really, really appealed to us. It honors our original intentions that we had at the beginning of the year to do something Flash-related around episode 19/20 without having comatose Barry [be on screen], which is basically paying Grant Gustin (Barry) a lot of money to sit around with his eyes closed, unconscious the whole episode. This episode is really cool and allows us to further flesh out THE FLASH universe in ARROW. We get to see their dynamic with [our guys].”
