Fox has opted to issue more early renewals for some of its shows: THE FOLLOWING, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, THE MINDY PROJECT, and NEW GIRL have been ordered for next season.
“These shows are some of the best and acclaimed series on television, with influential, culture-driving stars, and some of the best, most creative talent behind the camera,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, and Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Broadcasting Company in a statement. “All four are core assets within our 2014-15 portfolio of content, and we’re really happy to bring them back to our FOX fans for another season.”
THE FOLLOWING and THE MINDY PROJECT will be going into their third seasons. NEW GIRL will be going into its fourth. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE will be going into its second.
The shows join GLEE, SLEEPY HOLLOW, and BONES as returning (non-animated) shows set for the 2014-2015 season. The press release says “additional pickups to be announced,” with ALMOST HUMAN, DADS, ENLISTED, RAISING HOPE, RAKE, and SURVIVING JACK still awaiting official word on their fates.

Comments Off on GREY’S ANATOMY: Isaiah Washington to Return for an Episode
Former GREY’S ANATOMY star Isaiah Washington (Burke), who was infamously fired after feuding with fellow cast members, will return to the ABC drama for an episode this May, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
His return comes as GREY’S ANATOMY original cast member Sandra Oh (Cristina), Washington’s on-screen love interest, preps to leave the series at the end of the season.
“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should,” GREY’S ANATOMY creator Shonda Rhimes said in a statement to THR. “Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”
So…anyone else completely shocked by this?

COSMOS: Seth MacFarlane on the Challenges of Making an Ambitious Series and Why Fox Was the Right Network to Air It
March 6, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
Seth MacFarlane has a long history with Fox, from his animated comedies (FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, and THE CLEVELAND SHOW) to his recent turn as an executive producer on the live-action sitcom, DADS, and now, he’s attached to one of the network’s more ambitious shows: COSMOS, a 13-part series hosted by astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson that explores how our grasp of the universe has changed over the years. (It’s a stunning undertaking — and a bit baffling to imagine how Carl Sagan and co-writers Ann Druyan and Steven Soter pulled it off during the first version 1980 — and still manages to be completely entertaining.)
At the show’s premiere this week, MacFarlane talked with reporters about what prompted him to get involved with this show, the challenges they faced, and what he hopes viewers get from the series…

Things get serious on tonight’s HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT: Anthony Anderson and COMMUNITY’s Yvette Nicole Brown — both winners on their previous times on the show — are pitted against each other, and all they want is to be able to claim victory.
“I don’t even know anyone else on the team, I didn’t see [Anderson’s teammates] Gary [Dell’abate] or [WHITE COLLAR star] Tiffani [Thiesen], they don’t exist to me: it’s just Anthony Anderson,” Brown told reporters before taping the show. “And I love Tiffani; I’ve loved her since SAVED BY THE BELL. But Anthony has to go down…I can’t go home without beating this man!”
And Anderson wasn’t playing nice, either.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has been off the air for a while, but it returns tonight with a new episode and…a friend for Coulson?!
“Everybody has that friend that knows a little too much about them,” S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg told reporters. “And I would say Bill Paxton’s character and Agent Coulson are both that to each other…I always think about this scene [in the movie] where Agent Coulson and Thor walk out with this megaphone to deal with this giant, metal death monster in the desert, and he’s like, ‘Oh, God, what do we have now?’ And I thought that was such a telling scene, because I thought, what has his week been like if this is boring to him? And when you see the [banter] between Agent Coulson and Agent Garrett, which is [Paxton’s] character’s name, you think, yeah, these two guys have been through one too many weeks like that.”
