RAISING HOPE Series Finale: Mike Mariano on the Ending, Kenny Loggins, and More

Filed under #1 featured, Raising Hope
RAISING HOPE’s Mike Mariano opted to give the underrated Fox comedy proper closure in its season 4 finale in case the show wasn’t renewed for a fifth season (he bet correctly), and so the Chances ended on a quiet note…with the exception of Virginia’s father, Arnold, moving into Jimmy’s old room.
I spoke with Mariano about the ending, what season 5 ideas they had, getting Kenny Loggins, and more…
Fox Orders Game Show, BOOM!
April 7, 2014 by Marisa Roffman

Fox has ordered a new reality game show, BOOM!, the network announced.
So what the heck is BOOM? Per Fox, “BOOM! fuses the drama, intensity and thrill of a blockbuster action movie with the high-octane fun of a video game. Full of comedy, color and excitement, BOOM!’s fresh approach rolls the intellectual AND physical challenges of existing game shows into one can’t-miss event for viewers of all ages. A squad of four players must defuse eight (replica) “bombs” by answering trivia questions correctly within a strict time limit. In nail-biting scenes, the nominated player must defuse one “bomb” per question by cutting through colored wires representing multiple choice answers…which the ticking clock counts down. If the player answers correctly, the prize money builds and he/she moves to the next “bomb.” BOOM! delivers fierce tension and light-hearted humor in quick succession, extending the experience not only to those in the studio, but also to viewers at home who can play along.”

THE FOLLOWING’s Ryan Hardy had his world rocked when his off-on love, Claire (who was also the ex-wife of Ryan’s foe, Joe Carroll), was killed by a member of Joe’s cult with a grudge against Ryan.
Of course, what viewers learned recently was that Claire wasn’t dead at all — she was hiding in WITSEC with her son and mother. And at the end of last week’s episode, “Freedom,” she talked her way into being allowed to see Ryan, and the duo finally came face-to-face. But after a year-plus of thinking she’s been dead, how is Ryan going to react to this news?
“It’s going to mean — I mean, look, what is he going to do?” THE FOLLOWING executive producer Marcos Siega pointed out. “There’s Carrie Cooke in his life. It’s a big deal [for Claire to return].”
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: The Complete Series DVD Set Will Have an Alternate Ending
April 4, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
Filed under HIMYM, How I Met Your Mother
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’s series finale caused quite a bit of controversy this week (you can read my thoughts on the ending here), but it seems if you were unhappy with arguably depressing end, the complete series set may have a quasi-solution for you: an alternate ending will be included.
According to Deadline (who first broke the news), no new footage will be used, but the alternate finish is happier. (Which raises the possibility of Tracy still being alive in the “new” ending.)

Though the 10th anniversary of LOST’s pilot is still a few months away, the series celebrated its “birthday” a little bit early with a PaleyFest panel late last month.
Before the panel, I spoke with LOST showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, as well as stars Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond), Yunjin Kim (Sun), Maggie Grace (Shannon), and Malcolm David Kelley (Walt) about what the show meant to them, their favorite memories, and more…

RAISING HOPE — always a quirky, underrated gem — will air its final episodes on Friday, April 4th, and fittingly, the hour is full of heart, laughs, and moments that will remind viewers why they fell in love with the Chances (and the show) to begin with.
In honor of the show’s end, I spoke with showrunner Mike Mariano about crafting a series finale (without knowing if the show was canceled), his favorite memories of the show, the episode they never got to, and more…
David Letterman to Retire
April 3, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
David Letterman will be leaving LATE NIGHT, he announced during a taping of tonight’s show.
“The man who owns this network, Leslie Moonves, he and I have had a relationship for years and years and years, and we have had this conversation in the past, and we agreed that we would work together on this circumstance and the timing of this circumstance,” Letterman told the audience. “And I phoned him just before the program, and I said ‘Leslie, it’s been great, you’ve been great, and the network has been great, but I’m retiring.’
“I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all of the people who have worked here, all of the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much. What this means now, is that Paul and I can be married.
“We don’t have the timetable for this precisely down – I think it will be at least a year or so, but sometime in the not too distant future, 2015 for the love of God, in fact, Paul and I will be wrapping things up.”
Moonves released his own statement after the news leaked:

SLEEPY HOLLOW: Tom Mison on Ichabod’s Season 2 Troubles, Why He Trusts the Writers, and More
April 3, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
Filed under #1 featured, Sleepy Hollow
When SLEEPY HOLLOW’s Ichabod Crane woke up in 2013, he found himself in an uncomfortable position — his friends and family were long gone; he discovered his wife was a witch, and while she was still alive, she was trapped in purgatory; he had to get used to all of the new inventions and way of doing things he had missed in the 200 years he had been dead.
And yet, as Mison points out in video below that all of that was a “walk in the park” compared to where Ichabod will find himself in season 2: his wife has been kidnapped (by his not-so-dead ex-best friend), his newfound son is causing all sorts of trouble…and there’s also the small matter of Ichabod being trapped in a box.
Check out what Mison had to say about Ichabod’s season 2 troubles, why he’s OK with not knowing too much about what’s to come, and more…

Billy Eichner has been making his mark with BILLY ON THE STREET, but fans of PARKS AND RECREATION may also recognize Eichner from his work as Craig on the NBC comedy.
