THE FLASH Season 1 Tease: Greg Berlanti Confirms John Wesley Shipp’s Role
May 27, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
[This post contains spoilers for THE FLASH pilot.]
The new CW series, THE FLASH, cast John Wesley Shipp — who starred in the 1990 THE FLASH series as Barry Allen/The Flash — in a mysterious role, and while the first trailer heavily hinted who he will be playing, the people behind the show have just made it official: Shipp will be playing Henry Allen, the father of Barry Allen. (Barry is played by Grant Gustin in the 2014 version.)
“Given his history with THE FLASH, [executive producers] Andrew [Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry’s father and that was John Wesley Shipp,” THE FLASH executive producer Greg Berlanti said in a statement. “He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes. Also, personally, it was just wonderful to work with him again since my days at DAWSON’S CREEK [where Berlanti was an EP and Shipp played Dawson’s father, Mitch]. He’s a great actor and a great guy.”
Are you excited to see Shipp as Barry’s father?
