Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014
December 24, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.
As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)
So, these are my top shows of the year…
6. BROOKLYN NINE-NINE
The comedy came out of the gate feeling fully formed, and, thankfully, nothing has changed this year.
The ensemble has always gelled, but the various combinations have just been so delightful this year, as the writers have gotten to test out all the possible dynamics in the precinct. The careful exploration of a potential Jake/Amy romance has been charming, adorable, and perfectly in-character. And I've been really impressed with how the show has handled guest stars: so many shows get bogged down by either choosing the biggest names -- despite how they would fit in with the show's tone -- or focusing so much on the guest star of the week that the regular cast's storylines suffers, but BROOKLYN NINE-NINE has made the balance seem effortless.
And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
