Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014

December 24, 2014 by

It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.

As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)

So, these are my top shows of the year…

8. SELFIE

Oh, SELFIE. The comedy has the distinction of being the only show on this list to actually be canceled, and, quite frankly, much of what earned it the spot didn't even air on ABC. (Hulu has been releasing the remaining already-filmed episodes weekly.) It would be easy to dismiss the show based on the title (or the premise) alone, but in actuality, it's a charming/sweet/funny/relevant series that has consistently gotten better. (I actually enjoyed the show from the pilot, but I'd argue the series has been legitimately great since the fifth episode, "Even Hell Has Two Bars.") As both Sarah and Kelly noted, "Imperfect Harmony" was an incredible episode as Eliza admitted her feelings for Henry to him, but he assumed she was latching on to him because her relationship with her boyfriend was getting too serious. I don't know how the series will wrap up, but the loss of what could have been will sting for a bit.

And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
