Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014
December 24, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.
As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)
So, these are my top shows of the year…
2. THE AFFAIR
I've said this before, but no single series stuck with me as much as THE AFFAIR did. And, weirdly, it had nothing to do, really, with the central relationship. (I actually don't care if Noah/Alison end up together after the murder investigation is over. I've found him increasingly unlikeable -- in both perspectives -- and go back and forth on Alison.) But the way the writers have told this story? It's incredible. I know people can -- and have -- nitpicked the differences in the way the duo remember things, but no one's memory is perfect, and we all, consciously or unconsciously remember the things we want/need to at times. The format has made it so I can't take my eyes off the screen when I watch (a rare feat).
And while Dominic West and Ruth Wilson are getting -- deserved -- praise for their work on the show as the show's central couple, Maura Tierney (Helen) and Josh Jackson (Cole) have been consistently incredible as well.
And have you seen Sarah and Kelly’s lists, too? Check out Sarah’s top shows and top episodes, as well as Kelly’s top shows and top episodes.
