THE AFFAIR: Sarah Treem on the Potential Pressure for a Golden Globe Winning Show
January 16, 2015 by Marisa Roffman
THE AFFAIR was a big winner at last weekend’s Golden Globes, and showrunner Sarah Treem acknowledged she was aware of the added pressure the show’s win could bring.
“I mean, to be quite honest, we had some conversation about that beforehand,” Treem said during a Showtime TCA panel earlier this week. “And I think there’s a lot of pressure on the second season of a freshman show anyway, and the second season of a freshman show that wins the Golden Globe is big, and believe me, I feel that. But I think this show’s fortunate because we had always conceived of the show of at least three seasons, and we had thought about all three seasons and what we were going to try to do with it. So I feel that the second season will not be a panicked response to the Golden Globe win, hopefully. I think we’re going to proceed on course. I think the second season will be better than the first just because the second season emotions are better than the first. The first season is sort of a rough draft, and the second season you get to polish. So I’m hopeful that we will not crumble under pressure.”

Terry Crews has added another job to his ever-expanding resume: host of the new Fox unscripted series, WORLD’S FUNNIEST FAILS, that rewards the best viral videos.
“You know it was funny because I was headed into a holiday and I was working [on] BROOKLYN NINE-NINE and the whole thing and I get this call from my agent and they’re like, ‘Man, there’s this show that’s unbelievable. It’s called WORLD’S FUNNIEST FAILS, and what they basically do is they watch clips on YouTube of all this failure stuff,’ and I’m like, ‘Holy cow,'” Crews told reporters. “My wife and kids, we sit there and watch this stuff all day. You get caught in a rabbit hole. Once you play one video, you just keep going.”

FOREVER has booked a return visit for Hilarie Burton and a first-time appearance for THE WALKING DEAD’s Emily Kinney (who played Beth on the AMC series).
“Emily Kinney from THE WALKING DEAD is going to be on our show,” FOREVER creator Matt Miller shared. “She actually starts shooting [episode 16] tomorrow. And we bring back Hilarie Burton as the dominatrix. She starts tomorrow as well. She and Henry have a nice chemistry.”

FXX is launching MAN SEEKING WOMAN, a new (insane/hilarious) comedy, tonight at 10:30 PM, and it’s unlike anything on television. Sure, the series — which is based off of Simon Rich’s book “The Last Girlfriend on Earth: And Other Love Stories” — tells the story of a man re-entering the dating world, but how many other shows would have the man going on a date with a literal troll? Or have the man’s ex-girlfriend start dating Hitler? (Yes, that Hitler.)
I sat down with MAN SEEKING WOMAN creator Rich to talk about the adaptation of his book for television, the insane things to come (aliens and Japanese penis monsters), and more…

Comments Off on BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: Bradley Whitford to Guest Star as Jake’s Dad
BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is getting a dose of parental drama: Fox has announced that Bradley Whitford has signed on to the Fox comedy to play Jake’s (Andy Samberg) father.
Whitford — who will first appear in the March 8th episode — will play Captain Roger Peralta, “a regional airline pilot” who is “a charming guy with a history of letting Jake down.” But when Roger comes to town for a father-son weekend, Jake has hopes that this time, things will be different.
Are you excited to see Whitford and Samberg’s father-son act on BROOKLYN NINE-NINE?
