YOU’RE THE WORST: Stephen Falk and Desmin Borges on the Cut Edgar-Lindsay Kiss

For as fabulous as YOU’RE THE WORST’s first season was — and if you haven’t seen it, please remedy that ASAP: the first season is on DVD and streaming on Hulu — there was one key moment that was filmed that didn’t make it to our television screens: a Lindsay and Edgar kiss.

“The uninteresting answer is it was a really long episode, and I needed to cut something,” YOU’RE THE WORST creator Stephen Falk shared. “It wasn’t a significant kiss; it was a silly kiss.”

The moment in question was supposed to come in the episode, “Equally Dead Inside,” where Edgar and Lindsay came to the (horrifying) realization that they may be sidekicks in their friends’ lives. And after they grew tired of being stood up, the duo came up with their own plan to get back at Jimmy and Gretchen.

“We invite them again and decide we’re going to stand them up,” Desmin Borges (Edgar) recalled. “So we’re on a bench, outside of the place, with goofy masks on [and they’re not showing up]. And then I get the idea that, ‘Hey, Jimmy’s smart, maybe he knows we’re trying to set him up. So we should probably make out to freak them out [since] they’re watching us.’ So she straddles me on the park bench and we go at it…Lindsay absolutely hated the kiss, and Edgar was floored by it…that gave us a good base to where we got to by [the season 1 finale] and where we’ll take it to in season 2.”

And the show will be exploring the duo’s complicated dynamic in season 2.

“This season, I think their relationship is a little more serious,” Falk said. “Poor Edgar still has a crush…But I wanted to make sure the kiss would be at the right time.”
