Crackle will premiere its first original drama, THE ART OF MORE, on Thursday, November 19th, the streaming service announced during its Television Critics Association panel.
Per Crackle, the series “follows Graham Connor (Christian Cooke), a blue-collar upstart who leverages his way into this exclusive realm by exploiting connections to antiquities smuggling rings he was exposed to as a soldier in Iraq. Also inhabiting this rarified world is Sam Brukner (Dennis Quaid), a self-made billionaire, one who was pretty ruthless on his way up the food chain in the real estate world. Now he’s a tycoon with access to everything he wants and wants everyone to know it – he’s a collector of both art and people. Graham’s mentor is Arthur Davenport (Cary Elwes), a shrewd and eccentric world-class collector of art and illegal antiquities. Roxanna Whitney (Kate Bosworth) is a leading account executive and rival to Graham. The daughter of the CEO of one of the two warring auction houses—she was born into this exclusive world and thrives in it. However, she is riddled with insecurities that drive her to be formidable.”

EMPIRE: Andre Royo Teases His Guest Arc
August 5, 2015 by Marisa Roffman

With Lucious Lyon in jail by the end of EMPIRE’s breakout first season, he’ll need a new ally in his corner: Andre Royo’s “Thirsty” Rawlings.
“[He]’s a lawyer,” Royo told reporters. “It’s [been] pretty cool, it’s a fun time…[Terrence Howard] is a very dynamic dude — [as is] the whole cast. It’s probably the closest to that theater feel; the script is there, and that’s a blueprint. I come from THE WIRE, 95 percent was on the page — don’t even try to ad lib, though I got away with [some]. But overall, with EMPIRE and me and Terrence, it’s a real dynamic theater [feel], and it helps me have a theatrical spin — everything is big, everything is over the top, and at the end of the day, you just enjoy. So I’m having a blast.”
Royo’s lawyer is not particularly musically inclined — but that could, of course, change. “If I do [a song], it will probably be more rapping,” he laughed.
THE GOLDBERGS: Adam F. Goldberg Teases a RISKY BUSINESS Episode, Other Potential Homages

THE GOLDBERGS creative team is hard at work planning fun pop culture homages for its upcoming third season.
“The first episode is I’m doing like a big RISKY BUSINESS episode,” THE GOLDBERGS creator Adam F. Goldberg teased during the show’s Television Critics Association panel. “I kind of wanted to start with a big splash. So we’re crashing cars and we’re doing the whole thing. It’s going to be awesome.”
“It just has to happen kind of organically,” he continued. “We start with a story first. It’s not like I go, ‘I love SHORT CIRCUIT. I want to do an episode about it.’ We started talking about an episode where Murray and Adam are forced by mom to build a robot together, which is something that happened with me and my dad. And then that turned into a SHORT CIRCUIT episode….And I went online and I talked with a guy who built the robot, like a little version of it. So I bought that from him and…so it’s really kind of working from the story first.”
CASTLE: Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter Preview Beckett’s Career Path

CASTLE season 8 will be making some changes to the established team dynamic.
While the season 7 finale had Beckett’s career options up in the air, new co-showrunner Alexi Hawley confirmed that Beckett will indeed be getting promoted when the ABC drama returns this fall.
“At the end of the day, she’s become the captain,” Hawley teased. “But she’s going to be a much more hands-on captain than we’ve seen. She’s still going to be involved in solving cases. What’s great is it changes her relationship with the boys…she’s their boss now. There’s some fun to be had there. We just thought it was a great way to shake things up. Going into season 8 of a show, you need to be able to do that.”
With Beckett’s promotion, she will fill the space that was once occupied by Captain Gates. And while Penny Johnson Jerald (Gates) is off the show as a series regular, Hawley and co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter indicated they’d be open to her returning for a guest spot if the timing could be worked out.

If this crossover is Halloween-related, what do you hope to see?

ABC picked up CASTLE’s upcoming eighth season with one important piece missing: a deal in place for leading lady Stana Katic (Beckett) to continue with it.
Though the problem was eventually resolved — Katic signed a new contract to remain with the show — the network took a gamble things would work out.

PLAYING HOUSE returns for its second season tonight on USA Network, and, thankfully, the show is as hilarious/heartwarming as ever. (If you aren’t watching this with your own best friend…why not?!)
Season 2 picks up a few months after we last saw Emma and Maggie, and the duo are raising baby Charlotte — adorably awkward family portrait, and all.
But as fans of the show know, PLAYING HOUSE season 2 was never a sure thing — and as a result creators/stars/real-life best friends Jessica St. Clair (Emma) and Lennon Parham (Maggie) have been cherishing every moment they get to play in this world.
I spoke with the duo about the ridiculously long renewal process, making the show to bring them joy, and more…

(And, spoiler alert, a lot of truly ridiculous things are said on TRUE DETECTIVE.)

CASTLE: Jack Coleman to Return

Comments Off on CASTLE: Jack Coleman to Return
Jack Coleman will return to CASTLE during the two-part season 8 premiere, a rep for the show has confirmed. TVLine was first to report the news.
Coleman first appeared on the ABC drama in 2012 as Bracken, a man with ties to Beckett’s mother’s murder, and she worked for years to be able to take him down. Beckett finally got her justice in 2014’s “Veritas,” and she was finally able to resolve her mother’s case, and, seemingly, move on with her life.
“We very much felt like we needed to close off Beckett’s mother’s murder arc in order to free her up in order to move forward,” CASTLE creator/then-showrunner Andrew Marlowe said at the time.
This will mark a busy fall for Coleman — in addition to his CASTLE return, he’s also headlining NBC’s HEROES REBORN, reprising his role as Noah Bennet/HRG.

SIGNIFICANT MOTHER: Jonathan Silverman Previews the New Risqué CW Comedy
August 3, 2015 by Marisa Roffman
The CW is trying its hand at a half-hour scripted comedy.
SIGNIFICANT MOTHER — which was originally developed for The CW’s digital platform, CW Seed, before being picked up to the network — certainly is different from the shows that populate the network’s landscape during the traditional television season. Th show follows a young man, Nate (Josh Zuckerman) discovers his mother, Lydia (Krista Allen), and his best friend Jimmy (Nathaniel Buzolic) have been hooking up, it sends his world into a tailspin. But if you give the pilot a chance, it’s actually surprisingly charming.
“It’s a very unique and special little comedy…it’s a bit risqué,” SIGNIFICANT MOTHER star Jonathan Silverman (who plays Harrison, Lydia’s estranged husband/Nate’s father) allowed. “It’s adult themed. And it’s a comedy. It’s some new territories for that CW Monday night landscape.”
I spoke with Silverman about the show’s move to television, his stint behind the camera, how Harrison is handling his wife’s new relationship, and more… Read more
