September 20, 2015 by Marisa Roffman
Viola Davis made history by being the first black actress to take home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama series. (For her role on ABC’s HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER.)
The importance of the moment was not lost on Davis, who used her powerful speech to praise her fellow actresses, and address the fact that not enough roles are being written for people who aren’t white.
If you missed her speech — or want to watch it again — check out Davis’ incredible speech…

So amazing, right? And how fantastic was fellow nominee Taraji P. Henson’s joy for Davis’ win?
