SUPERSTORE Boss on Ben Feldman and Lauren Ash’s Turns Behind the Camera

SUPERSTORE’s Ben Feldman (Jonah) and Lauren Ash (Dina) step behind the camera for the next two episodes of the NBC comedy: Feldman made his directorial debut with Thursday’s “Lottery”; Ash wrote the April 19 episode “Gender Reveal.” (Fellow star America Ferrera previously directed two episodes of the show.)

“They’re both great,” SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer says. “I feel like when an actor directs, even for the first time, they already know the show so well, they know the characters. Everyone is always really supportive of them on set.”

“Lauren is such a hilarious person—so many of her lines are improv,” he continues. “I was most nervous about how that would go, because any TV writer knows writing is being rewritten. And you sort of learn to put your ego aside and that’s the experience. So I thought, ‘How is she going to react to that?’ And she turned in an excellent script. She was cool with it, went with it, and was awesome and collaborative. She was also incredibly helpful on set helping to produce her episode.”
