NBC NIGHTLY NEWS’ Lester Holt on the Evolving News Cycle and Journalism in 2018
June 4, 2018 by Marisa Roffman
It’s an extraordinarily odd time for journalism, and perhaps few are more aware of that than NBC NIGHTLY NEWS/DATELINE reporter Lester Holt.
“Nobody likes to have their job maligned,” Holt explained to reporters in the video below. “I’ve always believed—and I think most people believe—a free independent press is a vital part of democracy. We’re there to shine a light in the dark places and to hold those in power accountable. It’s certainly not helpful when we’re criticized from high places.”
But there is an upside to the tumultuous state of the world. “People are paying attention,” Holt said. “They’re listening, they’re watching, they’re reading. It makes us raise our game…we take great pride in getting it right every night.”
Check out the video for more from Holt, including how the 24-hour news cycle has evolved into something much shorter and how it has impacted NIGHTLY NEWS…
