Netflix Orders MIXTAPE to Series
July 2, 2018 by Marisa Roffman
Netflix has ordered MIXTAPE, a new musical drama series.
The show, created by former SMASH showrunner Josh Safran, was originally developed at Fox for the 2018-2019 season. With the network going in a different direction (and having less hours due to sports), they passed.
“Anyone who read MIXTAPE knows that new FOX is not the right home for it; fingers crossed it finds a home somewhere else!” Safran tweeted at the time. “I know I have to say this, but it really is unlike anything out there.”
Per Netflix, MIXTAPE “looks at the love stories connecting a diverse group of people in Los Angeles.” The series stars Jenna Dewan, Madeleine Stowe, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Callie Hernandez.
This isn’t the first former Fox show Netflix picked up: the streaming service made waves last month when they rescued LUCIFER after its cancellation.
