The CW at TCA: Live-Blog
August 6, 2018 by Marisa Roffman
The CW president Mark Pedowitz will be talking with the press during his executive session during the network’s TCA day. Follow along for updates…
9:47: Prior to the panel, some casting news: DYNASTY is adding Ana Brenda Contreras as the real Cristal. Skylar Astin has joined CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND as a love interest for Rebecca (Rachel Bloom).
9:50: The CW was surprised that Nathalie Kelley spoke about her exit before DYNASTY aired; it was supposed to be a surprise.
9:52: Yes, SUPERNATURAL is still going to continue as long as the guys want to do it. “We were very happy with the women who were in the WAYWARD spinoff…if there’s a great idea they want to go forward with [The CW will listen],” Pedowitz says. However, “SUPERNATURAL may just be Jared and Jensen, and there may not be a franchise beyond that.”
9:53: No plans—yet—to end any of the ARROWverse shows.
9:55: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW came into its own, Pedowitz says. “Who does not love Beebo?”
9:56: Pedowitz points as IN THE DARK and ALL AMERICAN as shows they hope people looking for non-supernatural elements will enjoy.
9:57: “We’re half-jokingly thinking about doing Beebo in every show we have,” Pedowitz says.
9:58: Pedowitz says he’s disappointed the academy has never really supported JANE THE VIRGIN and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, as well as the effects and stunts from the DC shows.
10:00: “Everyone is entitled to their opinion…but just give the show a shot,” Pedowitz says of the CHARMED reboot.
10:02: “He is thinking about something,” Pedowitz says of a potential RIVERDALE spinoff.
10:04: “It’s a soap, you do things in soaps,” Pedowitz says of recasting Cristal. The decision to recast came up about midway through the first season.
10:05: No plan to have Batman in the DC ARROWverse.
10:06: “We were supportive of bringing some of the people back to the degree she felt was best,” Pedowitz says of LEGACIES. “But any spinoff has to stand on its own two feet.”
10:07: The CW is hoping BLACK LIGHTNING will get a Netflix boost.
