THE WITCHER: Henry Cavill Set as Geralt of Rivia
September 4, 2018 by Marisa Roffman
Henry Cavill has landed the lead role in THE WITCHER, a new Netflix show based on the book series. (The saga has inspired video games, and a Polish film/TV run.) He’ll play Geralt of Rivia, a witcher—someone who hunts supernatural monsters.
Cavill’s previously starred on Showtime’s THE TUDORS; he’s best known for playing Clark Kent/Superman in the current run of DC films.
“He was my first meeting,” showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich wrote on Twitter. “I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.”
The eight-episode first season has no set air date yet.
