CHICAGO FIRE: Jesse Spencer Teases the ‘Best Pile-Up Ever’ in the Fall Finale

CHICAGO FIRE is ending 2018 with a bang…and one heck of an accident.
“We have this huge car pile-up on the freeway,” Jesse Spencer (Casey) teases. “It’s our best pile-up ever. You don’t see the [crash], but the aftermath of it is like 28 cars.”
To handle the catastrophe, it’s all hands on deck. And with the scope of the disaster they were tackling, the cast and crew pulled off some impressive shots. “We had 100 extras,” Spencer recalls. “And we have this one-shot— which we don’t normally get to do because there’s not enough time—taking crews out and moving down the line. We did it five or six times…it’s very film-like.”
“It’s like a big choreographed dance,” he continues. “We’re really excited about that. We don’t [normally] have time to do that, because we have to make TV [on a strict schedule]. And we had a helicopter evacuation, so the chopper’s flying. It’s the biggest pile-up that we’ve ever done.”
Of course, the fall finale isn’t just work for the Firehouse 51 crew. In the aftermath of his off-screen divorce from Gabby (Monica Raymund), Casey’s newfound romance with reporter Naomi (Kate Villanova) heats up. “We’re going to see him get back on the horse,” Spencer says with a laugh.
Spencer is also excited about another addition to the show. “We got a new firehouse dog [in the last episode],” he gushes. “I haven’t worked with her [yet]. She’s a good dog…I like having the dog around!”
