Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: I was very pleasantly surprised by Chevel’s win; based on the charts, I expected Kirk to win.

Look, did I want Kennedy to win? Heck yes. She has a fantastic voice. (And it’s bonkers she’s the youngest finalist ever. I hope she has one heck of a career.) But I also think this is absolutely a case of the better coach winning—and I say this as someone who liked Team Jennifer’s group more than any other coach this year. So many of Kennedy’s songs were either not right for her or not right for a singing competition. It’s one thing to think a song is really fun to sing or even perform, but if it’s not showcasing your strengths, it’s just not the right song. Unfortunately, too many of those added up.

But the finale was fun. It actually felt like we saw some of the best performances of the season from the contestants, and the guest stars felt like they brought their performances to finale-level for the show.

It was overall a weird season. It felt uneven, edit-wise, in the pre-taped rounds and I hate how rushed the live section is now. Next season is going to be different—it’ll be one day a week for basically half the season—and I’m curious how that impacts things. Hopefully it’ll just cut out the “Road to the…” episodes versus actual time getting the know the contestants post-blinds.
