About Last Night…SEAL TEAM and THE MASKED SINGER
January 3, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Television is back! Let’s talk about what aired on Wednesday…
SEAL TEAM: After a handful of multi-episode arcs, it was nice to have a mission that was one-and-done. (Also, I hate to say hijackers are smart, but using passengers to block the entrance was pretty well-thought out.)
I’ve been a little lukewarm on Lisa/Sonny, but they felt sweet this episode. Of course, she’s got a big secret now, and certainly that’s going to blow things up. But it’ll be interesting to see how they handle their tentative relationship.
THE MASKED SINGER: Uh, yeah, I’m obsessed. Is the show silly? Absolutely. Are all the singers incredible? Nope. (THE MONSTER SHOULD HAVE BEATEN THE UNICORN. HOW DID THAT INSANITY HAPPEN?) But holy moly, it’s freaking addicting. And the communal experience of guessing who is under those costumes has already been incredibly fun.
There’s an interesting balance the show will have to deal with. The first revealed contestant, Antonio Brown is famous, but maybe not household-name recognizable. (Also a peril of having sports figures whose faces are covered by helmets during their games.) In theory, the very biggest/best celebrities will be revealed at the very end. Does who is under the mask really matter in terms of sustaining audiences? We’ll see… (Here’s a list of everything we know about the contestants so far.)
