About Last Night…THE SIMPSONS, BOB’S BURGERS, and FAMILY GUY
January 14, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
THE SIMPSONS: How is Marge shocked that Lisa is embarrassed by their family? Heck, Marge has been plenty mortified by her family and taken steps to hide their true self. I’m actually most pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t a huge dramatic, friendship-ending fight once the truth was revealed, though.
BOB’S BURGERS: Poor Teddy, even a quest for love nearly led to his doom.
FAMILY GUY: If you had asked me what former Fox show they’d reference in a current episode of FAMILY GUY, I don’t know if SLEEPY HOLLOW would have made my top 50 list. What a bittersweet blast from the past.
So, the Trump thing. I was hesitant about how they’d handle it, but it felt like one of the better episodes in recent memory. It managed to feel quasi-timely (nearly impossible given the animation turnaround), biting, but still hitting some of the easier targets. (Small hands, hair, etc.) The end almost felt most important—pointing out that, uh, there’s some really scary stuff getting pushed under the rug—because a lot of it did feel like a genuine episode of the show. (As soon as Trump and Peter went nose to nose, I went, ‘”Oh my God, they’re actually going to do the chicken fight.”) Though I’m very curious what fans of the current administration thought of the episode…
