About Last Night…CHICAGO MED, RIVERDALE, SCHOOLED, and More

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
THE GOLDBERGS: I am going to have the freaking Piña Colada song in my head for the next few days.
It’s odd, because while Lainey’s exit was very obvious, it didn’t really hit me that we’d be losing Coach Mellor, too. (I guess I assumed he’d just be on way more infrequently vs. them straight-up writing him out.)
CHICAGO MED: Oy, Ava, stop with the lying. She’s not wrong, but the ends justifies the means argument is a slippery slope to be on. And I’m guessing Connor won’t be super forgiving after his conversation with his father.
The case with the sick twin fetuses was tough…I get why the parents wanted to play it safe, but the surrogate had been living with them in her; I get where she was coming, too.
Will’s behavior is a little rough to get used to because of the time jump. It would have been rough to have him away from the hospital, but the real impact of him being away still feels superficial.
RIVERDALE: How did Jughead not unmask the goon to make sure it wasn’t someone he knew?!?!?!
I figured they’d play out the Veronica/Reggie flirtation a little bit longer, but, hey, Veronica scored a win (and got to sing a killer song; both Ashleigh Murray and Camila Mendes sounded great with their performances), and she wanted to celebrate with Reggie.
It feels anticlimactic to end the episode on a “Is Archie dead?!” cliffhanger, because we know he’s not. Wouldn’t it have been more potentially shocking to end on the dead nuns?
SCHOOLED: SHE’S ALL THAT! It completely makes sense Lainey would both fall for that movie and utilize that as a way to try and fix the students she sees struggling. Of course, Lainey also getting SHE’S ALL THATed by CB was a fun twist.
(I loved having Lennon Parham and Ana Gasteyer in the episode. More of them, please. Also, there’s a real C.B.? That end tag was so cute.)
CHICAGO FIRE: #JusticeforTuesday.
But, uh, that mini arsonist that Severide has affection for…I feel like everyone should be a bit more worried. That kid is young and that wasn’t a small fire. His dad isn’t going to suddenly snap into being a good person. It’s trouble waiting to happen.
THE MASKED SINGER: Holy Monster! The Monster may be the most enjoyable contestant to watch right now, though the Lion is just fantastic. If she isn’t a career singer, she will probably have that option after this. Sorry, Deer, it’s clear you were having fun, but the right person got cut. (And this was one of the most obvious celeb reveals so far.)
MODERN FAMILY: I’m sure this is no surprise, but nothing amused me more than Cam and Mitch’s fight about David Duchovny/THE X-FILES.
DEADLY CLASS: The opening few minutes were so visually stunning. (I’ve seen beyond this, so keeping all other comments mum for now.)
CHICAGO P.D.: Atwater trying to get the plates, even while he was shot…oh man. That got me.
Given John C. McGinley is going to be on P.D. for multiple episodes, I kind of wish they had given us one episode with viewers being lulled into a false sense of security with him. Like, even Anne Heche’s Kate was kind of sketchy from the start, but they played a little more of a long-game with showing how far she would go.
YOU’RE THE WORST: Of course Gretchen and Jimmy missed their own elopement. I kind of love that it was just them being self-involved versus some dramatic decision. Though we should all be afraid of Lindsay’s ability to beat the crap out of her best friend, even if it was to solidify an alibi. (I mean, Lindsay did stab her then-husband. But still.)
