On THE GOLDBERGS, Lainey (AJ Michalka) is prepping for her perfect wedding in 1980-something. Flash forward a decade (give or take), and Lainey is back as a new teacher at William Penn Academy in SCHOOLED.
The 1990-somethings GOLDBERGS spinoff had a long path to making it to television. The series’ original pilot (sans Lainey) was passed over for the 2017-2018 season. ABC aired the episode as a backdoor pilot episode of THE GOLDBERGS in January of 2018; the network officially picked it up—and added Lainey.
But teaching was never in Lainey’s master plans…in fact, she’s not originally thrilled to be back home. So how will she adjust to her new path? SCHOOLED star Michalka dishes on playing Lainey in a new decade, returning to William Penn, and those ‘90s pop culture references…

FX is debuting an eight-part limited series, FOSSE/VERDON, this April about the romantic and professional relationship between Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and Verdon (Michelle Williams). (It’s based on the biography written by Sam Wasson.)
Per FX, FOSSE/VERDON “tells the story of the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. He was a visionary filmmaker and one of theater’s most influential choreographers and directors. She was the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Together they changed the face of American entertainment – at a perilous cost. Featuring Fosse’s choreography, the series explores the hidden corners of show business, the price of pursuing greatness, and the suffering inflicted in the name of art.” The series also stars Norbert Leo Butz (Paddy Chayefsky) and Margaret Qualley (Ann Reinking). Aya Cash (Joan Simon), Nate Corddry (Neil Simon), Susan Misner (Joan McCracken), Bianca Marroquin (Chita Rivera), Kelli Barrett (Liza Minnelli), Evan Handler (Hal Prince), Rick Holmes (Fred Weaver), and Paul Reiser (Cy Feuer). Ethan Slater (Joel Grey), Byron Jennings (George Abbott), and Laura Osnes (Shirley MacLaine) are also recurring on the series.
