Sarah Shahi on CITY ON A HILL’s PERSON OF INTEREST Reunion

Sarah Shahi is already set to have a big 2019, but her gig on Showtime’s CITY ON A HILL features a fun perk: a reunion with her former PERSON OF INTEREST co-star Kevin Chapman. (Their characters, Shaw and Fusco, were a part of the show’s central group, dubbed Team Machine.)

Shahi, who joins CITY ON A HILL in its second episode, called up Chapman when she was auditioning to join the drama. “We have had conversations…just to get his take on the people involved,” she told reporters after the show’s Television Critics Association panel. “I’m not one of those actor-actors, I’m not pretentious, I don’t give a f— about stupid shit. I just want to do my work, I want to do a good job, and I want to go home. And have fun in between. Kevin is a lot like that. Between the two of us, the amount of laughter we shared on set, the practical jokes…I’m looking forward to seeing him again and recreating some of those moments.”

Still up in the air is whether the duo’s reunion will also occur onscreen. “I’m with Aldis Hodge and Kevin Bacon a lot,” she previewed. “And you’ll get to see me at home. I’m not sure how often Kevin [Chapman] and I will intersect.”

Shahi’s new character, Rachel Behnam, has her hands full on CITY ON A HILL. “She’s going to night school. But in the daytime, she’s been assigned to Aldis’ character as the lead investigator,” she previewed. And with her outfits akin to Fran Drescher from THE NANNY, “he takes one look at me, and is like, ‘No.’ [But] it turns out I’m smarter than all of them, I’ve got bigger balls than all of them, and I’m the one who discovers [something essential].”

The actress also applauds the show’s decision to make the character Persian, like herself. “It’s such a great, big, bold choice to make this character Persian,” she said. “And to honestly talk about what it’s like, and say, ‘Yeah, I’m pretending to be somebody I’m not, because it’s easier to get by.’ And then behind closed doors, we see who she really is. And so we’ll see what happens.”
