AMERICAN GODS Team on the Showrunner Swap
February 12, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
AMERICAN GODS went through a large amount of drama between its first and second season: original showrunners Michael Green and Bryan Fuller exited, and then their replacement, Jesse Alexander, also left in the middle of season 2.
“The thing that has been made as season 2 feels like the same show we had in season 1,” executive producer Neil Gaiman, who also penned the book the Starz series is based on, said during the show’s Television Critics Association panel. “Part of that is because we have amazing actors. Part of that is because of who didn’t change [on the crew]…it still looks and feels like AMERICAN GODS.”
“It’s definitely taken a while to get season 2 out,” he continued. “But it takes a while to get good things made. We’d rather it be good.”
Series star Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday) showed his support for the show’s sophomore season. “I think season 2 is really a great way back to the book…which I thought we got away from,” he said. “It’s fascinating, because Gaiman wrote a great blueprint for where the series [can go].”
AMERICAN GODS, Season Premiere, Sunday, March 10, 8/7c, Starz
