About Last Night…THE VOICE and THE ENEMY WITHIN

Let’s talk about Monday night TV!
THE VOICE: Man, I missed the show, and I’m glad it’s back. John Legend should be a genuine threat: yes, it’s fancy to say he has an EGOT, but that also speaks to the different aspects of pop culture he’s been able to permeate. That is a real threat. I’m honestly surprised Kelly and Blake used their blocks on John so fast—and surprised that Blake used his instantly on John—but they’re right to worry about him.
As for the contestants, there are a number of strong/interesting singers in the bunch, but I still can’t get over Kim Cherry’s “No Scrubs.” My reaction to the reveal of her was pretty similar to Kelly’s…and not to play into Blake’s narrative, but wooooooooooow, I cannot believe she chose him. I would guess she won’t last long on Team Blake, but I suspect she’ll be snapped up by another coach relatively fast.
THE ENEMY WITHIN: This is not the show’s fault, but NBC doing a huge marketing push that revealed the final few minutes of the pilot (in what is supposed to be a “twist”) took some air out of the premiere. Jennifer Carpenter and Morris Chestnut were great, and the framework is there for this to be a really interesting show. But it’s a shame it felt anticlimactic.
