About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, RIVERDALE, and WHISKEY CAVALIER
March 7, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
AMERICAN IDOL: I don’t know if IDOL did Alejandro Aranda a disservice by touting his audition as the best ever. To be clear, it was very good; probably the best of the season. He has a good voice, good songwriting skills, and is clearly a great musician. But IDOL has a long history of auditions and long history of memorable auditions…some of which never even make it to the live shows. I hope Alejandro is an exception to the that.
This may be an odd complaint, but I miss when the auditions were divvied up by location. It felt a little more cohesive.
RIVERDALE: I spent the entire episode hoping/dreading Luke Perry would come on. And then when he did, it felt entirely too soon. A little too on the nose for this week. Even if Perry regularly only had a scene or two per episode, his presence was so important on the show; it’s hard to imagine it without him.
WHISKEY CAVALIER: This show brings me joy. Did it seem obvious Bellamy Young‘s character was probably going to backstab the team? Of course. But that’s also an inherent issue with the genre as a whole.
I was really impressed with how much the team gelled as a whole outside of their case of the week. Sometimes it can take an ensemble a bit of time to find their groove, but they seemed to slip right into it. The chemistry is great, and there’s a lot of fun potential pairings—both platonic and not—for them to play with in the future.
