Aya Cash on Embracing a ‘Very Different’ Role FOSSE/VERDON
April 9, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Less than a week after YOU’RE THE WORST ended its five-season run on FXX, Aya Cash is back in the network family with FX’s FOSSE/VERDON.
The limited series, which bows April 9, follows the real-life tumultuous professional and personal relationship between Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). Cash plays Gwen’s friend Joan Baim—who was also Neil Simon’s (Nate Corddry) wife of two decades. Despite playing a former dancer, “I can’t dance at all; I don’t dance at all,” Cash says with a laugh in the video below. “And I have a great wig.”
Jumping from the long-running comedy to a new project with FOSSE/VERDON was “very, very different,” Cash acknowledges. “It’s a very different role, it’s a very different group of people. I’m stepping on to someone else’s show. I’m so lucky Sam and Michelle are quality, wonderful human beings.”
