About Last Night…LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, THE VOICE, and ARROW
April 23, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!
LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: Ava and Sara’s time in purgatory was lovely, as odd as that sounds.
Nora and Constantine’s plan felt a little obvious, but I remain truly impressed with how much chemistry the ensemble has: virtually anyone can be paired together, whether or not the pairing works on paper, and they pop.
THE VOICE: Stop. Doing. Adele. Songs. Truly, the number of times it has worked on a competition show is probably in the single digits.
The episode was almost entirely forgettable, and it hit me during the a particularly dull stretch why: as exciting as the live element is, it also means the producers can’t shape the episode. A well produced performance show would (intend to) start and end with strong performances, with the weaker moments interspersed into the episode where they could do the least amount of harm/work best. With this, if the best singers are saved for (hypothetically) the last and second-to-last battles of the night, the producers can’t really make the show pop beyond the coaches’ energy.
ARROW: Awww, John got some family resolution. It’s sad he had so much (misplaced) anger, but given how fast we’re approaching the end of the show, it was really nice he got this.
