THE VOICE: Adam Levine Departs
May 24, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
THE VOICE season 17 is going to have a major change: Adam Levine has unexpectedly quit the show. The Maroon 5 frontman had been with the NBC series since its start.
The news comes just a few weeks after season 16’s entire coaching lineup—Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Levine—signed on to return for season 17. Former VOICE coach Gwen Stefani will step in for Levine next season.
THE VOICE host/executive producer Carson Daly was the one to break the news on the TODAY SHOW. Watch the announcement below:

Levine previously won the series three times during his run. However, with the show’s new format, his entire season 16 team was knocked out of competition fairly early in the live rounds.
Update (8:24 AM PT): Levine addressed his departure on Instagram, writing he was “truly honored to have been a part of something I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life.” Here’s his full statement:
NBC has not yet responded to request for additional comment.
