About Last Night…AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, PRESS YOUR LUCK, and SONGLAND
June 12, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Wow, there were some unexpected acts. The older strength artists?! Holy moly. Maybe it’s juvenile, but what delighted me the most was the parrot puppet. It was snarky! It spoke in Hebrew! It amused me a lot.
PRESS YOUR LUCK: It was fun! Elizabeth Banks feels like a bit of an odd fit for host, but she certainly wasn’t bad. And I’m kind of obsessed with the first winner and his husband? I also love that they’re tailoring the big prizes to each contestant’s wishes; it gives this ultimate choice a little more stakes.
SONGLAND: Legitimately, all three of those final songs should be snapped up in a second. Kelsea Ballerini was spot-on that the other two felt a little bit like her older music, but, man, she could have easily have taken all three songs and, well, crushed them. “Crush,” especially, feels like it’s just begging to be someone’s single. As much as I’m curious to see how the successful songs do post-series, I’m intrigued by the ones that get workshopped and don’t get selected.
