The SUPERNATURAL Team Teases a Satisfying, Worthwhile Series Finale

As SUPERNATURAL heads into its 15th season, the cast and creative team are already prepping for the end—literally.

With the decision to bring the series to a close made before they wrapped season 14, the writers were able to craft the final year’s arc with a specific conclusion in mind…and have already pitched the idea to stars Jensen Ackles (who plays Dean) and Jared Padalecki (who plays Sam).

“You’ve got a 15 year show…you want people to feel like it was worth their time, because this show is a big time investment,” executive producer Andrew Dabb told reporters in the video below. “You don’t want to leave people feeling hollow, you don’t want to leave people feeling cynical…that doesn’t mean the ending is happy and everybody high-fiving, but it means the journey was worth something and came to a place that makes everyone feel it was worth taking the trip.”

For the actors, they had slightly different reactions to the reveal. “I always said I wanted them to die, but I think what I was saying was whether or not they die, that was my…[way] of saying I want them to achieve peace,” Padalecki said. “I want Sam and Dean to find some version of peace. I think Sam and Dean find some version of peace…they find more peace than they’re in when the season starts.”

“I do [feel satisfied], but it took me a while to get there,” Ackles admitted. “When we were in the room and the idea came down the pike and everyone was signed off on it, my reaction was more like, ‘Okay. Okay.’ And I struggled with it for about a week or so.”

“To see anything with finality on it is hard to digest,” he continued. “But then I talked to a few people….I now have come around to this is the way to do it; this is satisfying.”
