Chris Fedak on a Possible CHUCK Revival
August 14, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
With so many shows being revived, one fan-favorite series that occasionally gets brought up for a potential revival is NBC’s CHUCK. (The cast has also held off-screen reunions and trips down memory lane in recent months.)
“There are plans, but, unfortunately, they’re only my plans,” series star Zachary Levi joked of reviving the show, while appearing on a panel in 2017. “I would love to do, essentially, CHUCK movies. Not in the movie theaters, but I would love to go to Netflix, and, like, every two years, do an hour and a half to two hour CHUCK movies. I think CHUCK is the perfect premise to do those one-off installments.”
The original show followed Chuck (Levi), an accidental super spy (thanks to receiving an email which embedded top secret information into his brain), as he and his team—which included NSA and CIA agents, as well as his “normal” friends/family—routinely saved the day. Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Scott Krinsky, and Vik Sahay also starred in the series.
Though the series had a planned end, it did conclude on an open-ended note: Sarah (Strahovski), Chuck’s partner-turned-wife, lost her memories, and Chuck hoped a kiss could make things click back into place. But whether it worked or not was open to interpretation.
But is something actually in the works?
“Fedak quietly shook his head, not wanting to say anything,” CHUCK co-creator Chris Fedak jokingly narrates. “I would say this: If Zac Levi wants something to happen, just try to stop him from doing it.”
Since CHUCK’s conclusion, the cast and creative team have kept busy—including CHUCK co-creator Josh Schwartz being involved with a reboot of another series he produced, GOSSIP GIRL. (Fedak, for his part, co-created the delightfully twisted PRODIGAL SON, which debuts this fall on Fox.) And those thriving careers could make a proper reunion complicated.
“Everyone has gone off to do amazing things and is so talented,” Fedak says. “And I think, for us, it’s finding the right story. That’s the most important thing. That’s the conversation we always have: if we’re going to do it, we want to find the right story. But I am never one to underestimate Zac. Who knows?”
