CHICAGO MED Boss, Colin Donnell Preview Connor’s ‘Satisfying’ Exit
September 25, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
When CHICAGO MED returns for its fifth season, it’s mayhem for the characters.
“We had cliffhangers with pretty much all our main characters,” executive producer Andrew Schneider says. “So we hope they’ll be very excited to see what happens to them all.”
Most pressing is Will (Nick Gehlfuss) and Natalie (Torrey DeVitto)’s accident, which finds the latter in a serious health crisis. “The ED is kind of a family,” Schneider acknowledges. “So everyone is collectively concerned for their own. It impacts everyone.”
But they’re far from the only ones in crisis: April (Yaya DaCosta) and Ethan (Brian Tee) might be expanding their family, Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) could be sick, and Connor’s (Colin Donnell) father just died.
There will be changes off-screen, as well, as Donnell and Norma Kuhling (who plays Ava Bekker) were let go from the series.
“We wanted to give Connor, who has been a regular and an important character for so many years, a real goodbye,” Schneider teases of bringing Donnell back for the opening hour.
For Donnell, who is also reprising his role as Tommy on ARROW’s final season, he appreciates getting to wrap things ups. “In both cases, I think it’s going to be a very, very satisfying end for both for characters,” he says. “There’s always the possibility for both or either one to reappear at some point. But if it never happens again, I think fans are going to be really satisfied with the way things wrapped up.”
