About Last Night…THE VOICE, FBI, and EMERGENCE
October 2, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
THE VOICE: Well, Team John feels like the one to beat. And I don’t like being negative about a show that is mostly light, but man, they really are missing Adam Levine’s energy.
FBI: I’m glad the case was more nuanced than influence’s uber fan takes her kid. (It actually, appropriately enough, felt like an SVU episode.) But on a general show note, it feels like the 2.0 version of the team is working well together.
EMERGENCE: The good news: The cast continues to be great together and I love the family unit that has formed. My concern, whether it’s fair or not, is the show leaning so hard into the mythology. It feels like it can sustain this pace for only 8-10 episodes per season, and I selfishly want to spend more time with these characters. I know it’s only the second episode, and I do appreciate they didn’t waste a lot of time repiloting, but…the downside of focusing on these core characters and this one mystery* is that they have a very, very, very delicate balance of moving too slow or too fast.
*I hope I’m wrong and reserve the right to have egg on my face in 5 episodes if it becomes clear the show really does have a way to run 16-22 episodes per season for 5-6 years.
