ARROW’s Marc Guggenheim on ‘Crisis,’ Crafting a Shorter Final Season
October 15, 2019 by Marisa Roffman
As ARROW heads into its final season, it’s also on the cusp of doing its biggest crossover ever: “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
The five-show extravaganza will air in December and January, right as the mothership is winding down its eight-season run. Initially, the conversations about the show’s end and the crossover were happening separately, but then things changed.
“[Because of when it was happening],] we started to realize those two conversations are related to each other,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told reporters in the video below. “I always sort of knew how we would end ARROW. But it was always a conversation specifically about ARROW, not about any crossover.”
The final season is also unique in that it will only be ten episodes, as opposed to the previous 20+ installments per year.
“While we always go into every season with a game plan, 22 episodes, you have a much more theoretical game plan you have than when it is ten,” Guggenheim acknowledges. “When it’s ten, you can be really specific. Especially since we’re talking seven episodes, really, then into the crossover, then into the final two. It’s a very tight, tight plan that we can really stick to in a way you can’t stick to when it’s 22, 23 [episodes].
Check out the video for more from Guggenheim, including why they “can’t screw [‘Crisis’] up,” and more…
